Service News 12.12.2017 | Duravit Partners With National Building Museum for “Making Room: Housing for a Changing America”
“Duravit is proud to be a partner with the National Building Museum for this exhibit,” explained Duravit USA President Tim Schroeder. “We hope that our forward-thinking approach in the bathroom will help shed light on the housing issues that face American homeowners today, and how they can be answered with thoughtful design.”
Making Room will include as its centerpiece a 1,000-square-foot house called “The Open House” designed by Italian architect Pierliugi Colombo/Clei. The exhibit will be a configurable space, utilizing “smart technology, movable walls, and multifunctional furniture” to allow visitors to engage with and observe the benefits of adjustable living situations. “The Open House” will showcase modern living environments for a range of age demographics: a young couple and two single roommates, an extended family, and a retired couple with a live-in caregiver. Duravit’s universal bathroom design will remain the same and highlight how all audiences can benefit from their products.
“Our partnership with Duravit is a testament to the brand’s dedication to creating accessible bathroom design,” stated Zachary Levine, Director of Exhibitions & Collections at the National Building Museum. “Duravit’s technical advancements in the bathroom embody the mission of Making Room, by promoting safe, hygienic, comfortable, and adaptable design solutions for today’s homeowner and renter.”
Duravit will provide a variety of bathroom furniture, ceramics, and toilets that promote accessibility, ease-of-use, sustainability, and hygienic technology.
Duravit products featured in the Making Room exhibit include:
Architec Tub: The Architec panel tub by Duravit is a modern approach to the standard alcove bathtub. An ideal option for small spaces, this compact tub eliminates the need for costly installation fees.
SensoWash Slim toilet seat: The SensoWash Slim provides optimum hygiene and comfort while maintaining a minimalist look. With a child-safety feature, remote control capability, night light, and slow close - the SensoWash Slim includes a wide range of innovative and technical distinctions.
ME by Starck Rimless toilet: Designed by Philippe Starck, the ME by Starck toilet leaves a sleek impression thanks to the collection’s signature slim edge. Duravit's innovative Rimless® flush technology ensures a dynamic and powerful flow of water that rinses the entire inner surface, while allowing for efficient and hygienic maintenance.
P3 Comforts washbasin: The P3 Comforts washbasin is characterized by its elegantly raised tap platform. The broad basin appears almost rimless, while its interior has been maximized to provide depth and
optimal draining and cleaning. The washbasin is asymmetric, providing storage space and giving the look of cool modernity.
L-Cube vanity unit: Designed by Christian Werner, L-Cube approaches bathroom design with a modular sensibility. L-Cube’s distinguishing feature is its clean, geometric design and array of accessible features: handle-free doors implement tip-on, self-close technology while a variety of sizes makes L-Cube a design option for any bathroom.
ME by Starck One-Piece Duravit Rimless®:
The ME by Starck One-Piece toilet combines the collection’s signature slim edge with a traditional, classic design. Duravit's innovative Rimless® flush technology ensures a dynamic and powerful flow of water that rinses the entire inner surface, while allowing for efficient and hygienic maintenance.
OpenSpace B Shower Screen: A true innovation, the OpenSpace B Shower Screen optimizes valuable space without compromising design. Instead of taking up room when not in use, the screen can simply be folded back against the wall. Designed by Duravit and the EOOS design group, OpenSpace B features a new mounting bracket that doesn't require any additional diagonal wall support, even in larger applications.
P3 Comforts stool: Designed collaboratively by Duravit and Phoenix Design, the P3 Comforts series is elegantly modern and clean. The P3 Comforts stool carries on this aesthetic with a graceful, yet practical accessory for the bathroom.
The National Building Museum will also host educational programming and panel discussions to address issues of housing disparity and the national housing crisis. Programming includes: “Spotlight on Design: The Making of Carmel Place” and “Home Today/Home Tomorrow”. Making Room will be on display from November 18, 2017 through September 16, 2018 at the National Building Museum.
