Service News 19.08.2019 | Duravit USA Partners With Frank Webb Home for Seventh Annual Designer Dream Bath Competition
“As our Designer Dream Bath Competition has evolved over the years, we’ve been able to get to know different designers and see amazing projects from all over the country,” explains Duravit USA President, Tim Schroeder. “This year, we’re thrilled to be focusing solely on the Northeast region with Frank Webb Home. Their knowledge of Duravit product, passion for great design, and deep understanding of the design community will make them a standout partner for the competition, finding best-in-class submissions and spreading the news of Duravit’s latest product lines.”
“We are excited to partner with Duravit USA on their Designer Dream Bath competition. They are a premiere brand in the industry, and we are proud to have their innovative and technology-forward products on display at our showrooms across the Northeast,” adds Alicia Criniti, Vice President of Marketing, F.W. Webb Company. “This is a new and fun way for us to engage with the design community, and we look forward to seeing their creative ideas for reimagining this space.”
The Designer Dream Bath Competition features two categories: Unbuilt (designer’s own bath) and Built (completed project).
The Unbuilt category encourages designers to delve into Duravit’s rich product library. This year, participants are tasked with incorporating Duravit’s 2019 releases, which feature strong innovations on the technology and material fronts: Happy D.2 Plus and Viu/XViu, by sieger design, and Duravit’s first integrated shower toilet, SensoWash® i. The winner in this category receives $10,000 in Duravit product to make their dream bath a reality.
Continues Schroeder, “Tech has changed the way we look at the bathroom. By challenging designers to incorporate Duravit’s most tech-savvy products, such as the exciting SensoWash® i shower-toilet, we hope to get a glimpse into this modern approach and see how designers take advantage of these features.”
The Built category will look at projects completed in the last 5 years (October 2014-2019) featuring any Duravit product. These projects may come from any sector, including residential, commercial, and hospitality, among others. The Built winner receives $5,000 of Duravit product.
The competition officially opens for entries August 19 and closes October 18. As part of the collaboration with Frank Webb Home, submissions in both categories will only be accepted from submitters in the following states/regions: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Winners will be chosen by an established panel of designers and media and will be announced in November 2019.
Featured collections for the 2019 Duravit Designer Dream Bath Competition Unbuilt Category include:
SensoWash® i: SensoWash® i revolutionizes design, hygiene, and comfort in the bathroom. The integrated shower-toilet, available as SensoWash® i Plus or Lite, is a complete, self-contained unit. Materials and functions – ceramic, toilet with an electronic flushing system, and truly modern bidet comfort – blend into an elegant whole. SensoWash® i also boasts a uniquely flat seat to complete its aesthetic appeal. The toilet’s SensoWash® functions are operated via the remote control. Personal preferences can be stored in two different user profiles. Alternatively, SensoWash® i can be operated via smartphone using the new SensoWash® app available for Android and IOS. The remote control and app are intuitively operable.
Other standout features for SensoWash® i include: shower function, three different washes, adjustable spray wand position, adjustable water temperature, adjustable water spray intensity, soft-closing mechanism, adjustable seat temperature, seat sensor, and energy-saving mode, adjustable warm air dryer temperature, and night light function.
Happy D.2 Plus: The newest addition to Duravit’s iconic Happy D. product line, Happy D.2 Plus reimagines the series to reflect current trends in colors, designs, and finishes. The new, dark and moody Anthracite Matt finish option for furniture and ceramics provides an additional option for those looking to inject a fresh modernity into the bath. Happy D.2 Plus encompasses the full suite of bathroom products, including clean-lined bathtubs and above-counter wash basins, stand-alone consoles and semi-tall cabinets for chic storage, and tech-forward mirrors in a playful, circular shape that complements the collection’s expressive style.
The lighting strips that border the mirror come in two finishes: the precise sunburst Radial or the flowing, lined Organic. The models can be fitted with a sensor switch featuring dimmable light and optional mirror heating, or with an icon control on the mirror surface to manage mirror heating, ambient light mode, and a switch for colored light. At a luminosity of more than 300 lux, this option’s light color can be continuously adjusted from 2,700 (warm light) to 6,500 (cold light) kelvin. When purchased in a set of two, the mirrors are synchronized using an innovative wireless technology at Duravit’s factories so that they pair seamlessly.
Viu/XViu: Duravit and sieger design are presenting a complete bathroom range that exudes future-facing design with their new collection of Viu ceramics and XViu furniture. The industrial elegance of the series emerges from the interplay of soft, organic forms with precise geometry and details finished to a previously unattained level of perfection. With contemporary contrasts of ceramic, glass, and metal against matt lacquer and real wood, and boundary-pushing material and technological innovation, Viu and XViu pursue a new vision for the modern bathroom. The new range outfits the entire bathroom with Viu ceramics (washbasins, toilets, and bidets), XViu furniture (vanity units, storage cabinets, mirrors, and mirror cabinets), and matching bathtubs.
The highlight of the collection is a washing area made possible by Duravit’s patented c-bonded technology. The exterior is a crisp rectangle, while the interior features gentle organic curves with a spacious inner basin and generous shelf. The edge of the tap platform continues as a subtle outer line, while the detail of the horizontal overflow within the basin underlines the horizontal alignment of the outer shape. The interior ceramic calls to mind the flowing softness of water. To keep the clean shape, the white ceramic cover of the push valve is set flush to the basin, even when open.
Additional category information:
Built Category: The Built category allows designers to showcase their own projects with Duravit fixtures completed between 2014-2019. The designs can be built for residential, hospitality, and/or commercial settings. Designers participating in the Built category submit photography of the completed work.
Unbuilt Category: The Unbuilt category takes the inverse approach, asking designers to create a proposed redesign of their own bathroom featuring their choice of products from three of Duravit’s 2019 collections. For the Unbuilt category, designers submit a rendering or sketch of their “Duravit Dream Bathroom,” including a “Before” image of the intended space. Submissions in the Unbuilt category must include at least one of the following collections: Happy D.2 Plus, Viu/XViu, SensoWash® i.
Submissions for the 2019 Designer Dream Bath Competition close on October 18, 2019. Winners will be announced in November 2019. More information, FAQs, and submission instructions for the competition are available online at www.duravit.us/competition.
