High, higher, ‘The Troika’! The London-based architects Foster + Partners designed Malaysia’s highest and, at the same time, most luxurious residential complex in the heart of the capital, Kuala Lumpur.
Three interconnected apartment towers of varying heights rise into the sky. The skyscrapers have 38, 44 and 50 storeys emerging out of a four-storey podium, which houses shops, restaurants and also offices. A courtyard created by the circular arrangement of the three towers forms the green lung of the building. A cool place of retreat for the inhabitants of hot and humid Kuala Lumpur.
At level 24 of each tower, special elements, so-called sky bridges, link the buildings and create a Sky Lobby with a spectacular view of the metropolis. The bathrooms of the residential units also feature the signature of Lord Norman Foster and are equipped with products from the Bathroom Foster series, which the architect designed for Duravit.
Foster + Partners paid particular attention to the outer façade of the residential towers. Fully glazed, the external structure consists of vertical slender sheer walls, a design element with an important protective function: they support the subtle rotation of the building, for example, during an earthquake or in a strong wind. Not only safe but also sustainable, 'The Troika’ complies with international sustainability criteria with regard to design, the materials used and low energy consumption.
