Record holder: at a height of 250 metres, DC Tower 1 is the tallest skyscraper in Austria. The glazed monolith is the work of French designer Dominique Perrault. It has an impressive architecture and was built with sustainability criteria in mind. As one of Austria’s first office towers, DC Tower 1 fulfils the EU Commission’s Green Building energy and sustainability criteria and was nominated for LEED.
The tallest tower in Austria’s capital city is home to large companies, a hotel and gym, as well as numerous Duravit products: in addition to the comfortable Happy D. and D-Code bathtubs and Vero washbasins make a characteristic rectangular design statement in the bathrooms. The skyscraper’s fissured façade structure features a special building device: in order to absorb lateral forces created by the wind, a pendulum weighing 305 tons was installed between the 56th and the 60th floor.
After completion of DC Tower 1, there are plans to construct its slightly shorter counterpart, DC Tower 2. Once completed, the tower will stand 160 metres tall and will form the basis for the future vertical development of VIENNA DC, Austria's biggest real estate project: Within the space of a few years, an urban centre with residential and office buildings, research and leisure facilities was constructed here on the northern banks of the Danube.
